Not Just A Bookstore opened its doors December 1, 2007 at the corner of Delmar & Hamilton in a newly revitalized area of the Delmar Loop. Since opening Connie & Richard Cheek saw the need of going out to the community to help build on their motto "Our Journey To Literacy". They have become something different than just bookstore owners by becoming literacy advocates. In this journey they have met many new people and friends along the way that see their vision. Connie eagerly works a lot behind the scenes as she is constantly talking to different literacy groups on how their bookstore can help out. Connie has been attending The Literacy Roundtable meetings since June of 2009 and she is very excited about getting on board with their programs, they go out to read to preschoolers at Stella Maris Daycare each week through Ready Readers and they are collaborating with the YMCA Literacy Council. Their dream is too have many bookstores like this in several different states where literacy is declining at failing rate daily. Connie said "It's not about what people can do to help us it's about what can NJABS do to help the communities". They have many different events weekly with books signings, business networking, business building meetings and they have even held several birthday parties too. Not Just A Bookstore as held Friday Night live jazz featuring Fred "Saxxy Jazz" Walker and they host many spoken word events regularly you can check the St. Louis American Newspaper to see their next upcoming events.
